It was from the movements of rebellion in the mid-1800s, when many Italian citizens resorted voluntary exile to start a new life in the lands of Peru. Antonio Raimondi (1824-1890) geographer, anthropologist and traveler, is still a reference for his scientific contribute to the country. Many of the important institutions in Lima were born thanks to the implication of the Italian colony and the Raimondi’s figure. Its legacy is still appreciated today. Italian identity, although partially absorbed by the host country remains intact in the memory of people who decided to sail towards a better future.
